<スマートテレビ> テレビの未来は暗くない、マルチスクリーン視聴と見逃し放送が強化する本放送!!


 ビデオネットですが5月の欧州ロンドンで行われたコネクテッドテレビカンファレンスのパネルにおいてイタリアのメディアセット(民間放送)と英国BBCが異口同音にマルチスクリーン視聴(モバイルやパソコンなどのデバイスフリー視聴)と見逃し放送は「本放送と補完財の関係にあり、電波の本放送を支援している。」と述べています。
 どうやらマルチデバイス視聴や見逃し放送がテレビから離れる若者を本放送=テレビに呼び戻していると言う認識のようです。
 2年前に叫ばれた見逃し放送やマルチデバイス放送はテレビ放送を破壊すると言う見方は大幅に後退しています。テレビ放送の未来は暗くないとの見方が広がっています。
 問題は寧ろスマートテレビの標準化の遅れだとも。

Two years ago anyone who thought linear TV would remain the dominant force in television for the long-term was drowned out by the sound of commentators predicting its demise in the face of increased on-demand viewing. In 2011, linear TV roared back into fashion, largely thanks to increasing evidence that OTT and multi-screen TV is viewed in addition to, rather than in place of, linear TV, and that catch-up TV is helping to drive consumption of the linear programmes that spawned it.
Speaking at the Connected TV Summit last week, Francisco Asensi, Strategy Director, New Media-RTVE, said linear TV definitely has a long-term future, even in the connected TV environment, because it remains the main audience driver. “Our statistics demonstrate that people watch the same content on-demand that is being broadcast on TV. What changes is the time of the day when it is viewed.” Asensi says linear TV has an important place in all multi-screen viewing including on smartphones and tablets.
“Linear TV is not going to die,” added Angelo Pettazzi, Head of DTT Content Factory at Mediaset on a panel discussion about where Connected TV is leading the broadcast industry. “TV is social. You share it, and the day after watching, you talk about it, whether it is Big Brother or the football championship final. Linear TV is not going away.”
Gideon Summerfield, Project Manager, BBC iPlayer on TV, at the BBC, said he is excited by hybrid technologies that can bring linear and non-linear content together in a more integrated way. “I agree that linear TV will continue to dominate,” he said. “It dominates even in on-demand now. The schedule continues to dominate catch-up TV.”
